5 Carbon Finger Mismatches That Cause Returns

Nearly every returned carbon finger comes down to one of five mistakes. All five are avoidable with a caliper, a clear photo and ten minutes — before the order is placed, not after the parcel arrives.

Why this matters commercially

Carbon fingers are wear parts. A wrong part is not just a return — it is a return that arrives after the harvest window has closed, on a machine that is sitting idle. For importers and dealers the cost is not the part; it is the season. Most of that cost is avoidable at the specification stage.

Here are the five mismatches we see most often, and the specific check that prevents each one.

  1. M6 treated as M8. CF-04 and CF-04-2 look alike from a distance: same 5 mm shaft, same 310 mm marked shaft dimension, same general shape. Only the thread differs. Ordering CF-04-2 (M8) for a machine that takes M6 produces a part that will not enter the mount at all. Check: measure the thread, do not infer it from the shaft.
  2. Treating the marked shaft dimension as total length. On CF-04 and CF-04-2, 310 mm is a number stamped on the shaft — not the overall assembled length. Total assembly length for CF-04 is still unconfirmed in our records. Check: if 310 mm is the figure you were given, tell us and we will confirm what it refers to.
  3. Assuming a brand name guarantees fit across the range. CF-10 is recorded against OLEO-MAC and CIFARELLI. Brand confirmed, specific models unconfirmed — not guaranteed across the full range. CF-06 against INFACO is the same situation. Check: give us the model, not only the brand.
  4. Reading reference keywords as a fitment claim. CF-03-2 carries the keywords STIHL SP, ZLOME07, AEWOO, DAEWOO. These are references found in the market, not verified fits, and the part is not OEM-authorised. Check: send a photo of the original finger; we match against that.
  5. Using full rod length where finger length is needed. CF-03 is specified as 5.0 mm × L385 mm as a full rod with a plastic cover. The carbon finger segment length must be confirmed separately — the rod figure is not the finger figure. Check: state which measurement you need measured before you order.

Our rule: we would rather confirm than guess

Where a figure or a fitment is not verified in our records, this page says so rather than filling the gap. A clear "to be confirmed" costs one message. A wrong part costs a shipment and a season.

The 10-minute pre-order check

Before any carbon finger order, run through these five items. If you can answer all five with a measurement rather than an assumption, the order will usually be right the first time.

  • Machine model in writing — not "the usual ZANON", the model plate number.
  • Thread size and gender — M6 female / M8 female / M12 male, with pitch if visible.
  • Shaft diameter — measured on the shaft, not across the cover.
  • Which length you need — total assembled length vs the carbon finger segment.
  • One clear photo of the original part — next to a ruler or caliper if possible.

Which products are still short on data

CF-05 and CF-09 have no recorded specifications at all, and OH-01 (olive harvester) has none either. We make no claims for those until the data exists. If you need one of them, contact us and we will tell you what we can measure from your original part.

Mismatch and prevention at a glance

Each row reflects a limitation already recorded in our product data.
MismatchWhat it looks likeWhat prevents it
M6 vs M8 Same 5 mm shaft, different insert thread Measure the thread; treat CF-04 and CF-04-2 as separate parts
Marked length read as total length 310 mm stamped on the shaft, ordered as overall length Ask which dimension 310 mm refers to before ordering
Brand assumed across the range "It's a ZANON, so it fits" Quote the specific model; brand-only is not a fitment
Keywords read as fitment STIHL SP / ZLOME07 / AEWOO / DAEWOO Send a photo of the original; keywords are references only
Rod length used as finger length CF-03 L385 mm full rod treated as finger length Confirm the carbon finger segment separately
Ordering a data-empty model CF-05, CF-09, OH-01 have no recorded specs Contact us first — we will not invent a specification
